Bitget resumes withdrawals: when BTC, ETH and USDT reopen and what to do in the first hour

After the September 24 hack, Bitget is reopening withdrawals in stages, starting with bitcoin on September 28 at 08:00 UTC. Meanwhile, the loss estimate has grown to $387.5 million. Here is the schedule by coin and network — and why you should move your coins to your own wallet on day one.

Withdrawal schedule

Each stage opens at 08:00 UTC.

DateWhat reopensNetworks
September 28Bitcoin (BTC)Bitcoin
September 29Ether (ETH)Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism
September 30Tether (USDT)Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, TRON
October 2Other tokens, fiat and P2P—

Half an hour before the start, on September 28 at 07:30 UTC, Bitget CEO Gracy Chen will host an AMA — an open Q&A session.

What we know about the losses

  • The first estimate was $351.6 million; on September 25 it was raised to $387.5 million after another $35.9 million in ZEC and TRON was counted.
  • The funds left the exchange's hot and warm wallets — about ten assets, including XRP, ETH, USDT, ZEC, USDC, BNB and AVAX.
  • Bitget says user balances are unaffected: the loss will be covered by its $464 million user protection fund. That is about 84% of the fund.
  • Trading and deposits kept working the whole time — only withdrawals were paused. You'll be able to move coins to your own wallet or swap them on VertEXchange once their turn in the schedule above comes.
  • According to the exchange, the vulnerability has been found and fixed, and Mandiant and SlowMist are running additional checks.

What to do on reopening day

  • Withdraw as soon as your coin reopens. Expect a queue in the first hours, but an exchange that has just lost money from its hot wallets is not the best place to keep funds.
  • Withdraw to a wallet whose keys you hold, so the next exchange hack cannot touch you.
  • Start with a small amount. Make sure the address and network are right before withdrawing the rest.
  • Check the network. USDT reopens on four networks at once — pick the one your wallet supports. If you need a different network later, you can exchange USDT ERC20 to USDT TRC20.

Beware of scammers after hacks

Every big hack brings fake "support teams" and "fast withdrawal" offers. Remember three rules:

  • Real support never messages you first and never asks you to send money to "unlock" your funds.
  • Only use links from the exchange's official website and app — not from chats or comments.
  • No real employee will ever ask for your seed phrase or two-factor codes.

If you want a different coin

Want to switch assets right after withdrawing? You don't need an account on another exchange: VertEXchange works without sign-up, email or phone number. For example, you can exchange ETH to bitcoin, and the BTC lands straight in your wallet.

Take custody of your coins

Withdrawn from the exchange? Swap without an account — coins go to your wallet, not someone else's balance.
