Hyperliquid (HYPE) is the coin of the Hyperliquid blockchain, known for its perpetual futures and spot exchange with an order book that runs on-chain. The chain has two parts under one consensus: HyperCore, where trading and staking happen, and HyperEVM, an Ethereum-compatible smart contract environment.

HYPE on HyperEVM is usually acquired to pay gas in HyperEVM apps, or to move it on to HyperCore for trading and staking on Hyperliquid.

HYPE exists in both parts of Hyperliquid, but their balances are separate. In the exchange form, HYPE is available on HyperEVM. There it is the network's native coin used to pay gas: it has 18 decimals and no contract address.

A HyperEVM address is a standard EVM address: 0x followed by 40 hex characters. The same address works on HyperCore, Ethereum and other EVM networks. To see HYPE in MetaMask or another EVM wallet, add the HyperEVM network (chain ID 999): while the wallet is set to Ethereum, the HYPE balance stays hidden.

HYPE that arrives on HyperEVM does not show up in the Hyperliquid trading interface by itself. You can move it to HyperCore in the Hyperliquid interface or by sending HYPE from HyperEVM to the system address 0x2222222222222222222222222222222222222222. That address accepts HYPE only: other tokens sent to it are lost.

Exchanges label the networks differently, and a network called "Hyperliquid" can mean either part. Many exchanges accept HYPE from only one of them. Before withdrawing to an exchange, check that its deposit instructions name HyperEVM: a transfer from the other part will not be credited automatically.

Regular HyperEVM transactions go into small blocks produced every second, and a block is final immediately. Large blocks come once a minute and handle heavy operations such as contract deployments. The fee is paid in HYPE, so when sending your whole balance, leave a little for gas.
