OKB is the token of the OKX exchange and the gas coin of its layer-2 network, X Layer. In 2025 OKX burned most of its OKB holdings and upgraded the contract: the supply is now fixed, and the contract can no longer mint or burn OKB. X Layer became OKB's main network, while the ERC-20 version on Ethereum is being gradually phased out.

OKB on Ethereum is most often swapped by holders of the old ERC-20 version: since August 2025 OKX has not withdrawn the token to this network, and a swap lets them exit it straight from a wallet.

Here OKB is exchanged on Ethereum: it is an ERC-20 token, contract 0x75231f58b43240c9718dd58b4967c5114342a86c. The 2025 upgrade did not change the contract address — only its logic was replaced. OKB can be received on any Ethereum address: 0x followed by 40 hexadecimal characters, 42 in total.

The main trap is the network. The OKX wallet and the exchange itself work with OKB on X Layer, and addresses there also start with 0x. ERC-20 OKB sent to such an address arrive on Ethereum: in your own wallet they appear once you switch to the Ethereum network, but an exchange that accepts OKB only on X Layer will not credit the deposit automatically, and it can be recovered only through support.

Since August 2025 OKX has not withdrawn OKB to Ethereum, and some exchanges have moved OKB deposits and withdrawals to X Layer. Before sending ERC-20 OKB to an exchange, check its instructions to make sure it still accepts OKB on Ethereum.

On Ethereum the fee for an OKB transfer is paid in ETH. On X Layer it is the other way round: OKB itself is the gas coin. So a wallet that holds only OKB on Ethereum cannot send them until it has some ETH.

An Ethereum block comes every 12 seconds, and recipients usually wait for a few more confirmations — crediting OKB takes minutes. Ethereum has no memo; the address is enough.
