ONDO is the governance token of the Ondo DAO, linked to Ondo Finance, which issues tokenized US Treasuries and other real-world assets on-chain. ONDO holders vote on the protocols the DAO governs. The token has been transferable since January 18, 2024; before that, all ONDO was locked.

ONDO appeals to people following real-world asset tokenization: minting Ondo's Treasury-backed tokens is open only to verified buyers, while ONDO moves freely between any wallets.

ONDO on Ethereum is an ERC-20 token at contract 0xfaba6f8e4a5e8ab82f62fe7c39859fa577269be3. The recipient address is a regular Ethereum address: 0x and 42 characters. The same address exists on other EVM networks too, but ONDO sent anywhere other than Ethereum will not appear in that wallet's Ethereum balance.

Ondo Finance issues other tokens as well: USDY and rUSDY, dollar tokens backed by Treasuries; OUSG, a bond fund token; and tokenized stocks. None of them is ONDO: they have their own contracts and rules. OUSG can be held only by addresses in a registry of verified owners, and USDY has a blocklist. ONDO is a plain governance token.

The fee for an ONDO transfer is paid in ETH. A common situation: ONDO is withdrawn from an exchange to a fresh wallet and cannot be sent on because the wallet holds no ETH. An Ethereum block comes every 12 seconds, and a transaction becomes final after about 13 minutes — some recipients wait for exactly that.

ONDO has been issued on some other networks too. Those are separate tokens with their own contracts: ONDO on Ethereum means contract 0xfaba…9be3, and a token from another network moves only on its own network. "ONDO airdrops" on third-party sites that ask you to connect a wallet are a common scam.

ONDO is the governance token of the Ondo DAO. USDY and OUSG are Ondo Finance product tokens backed by bonds, with different contracts and restrictions on who can hold them. They cannot be sent in place of ONDO.
