How to convert USDT TRC20 to ERC20 or BEP20: swap, exchange or bridge
You can't convert USDT TRC20 to ERC20 or BEP20 by simply sending it: each network has its own token, and a 0x address won't accept coins from TRON. What you need is a USDT-to-USDT swap onto the other network: through a no-registration swap service, on an exchange that withdraws on the network you need, or via a bridge. Below is how to do it step by step, what the transfer costs as of October 4, 2026, and where people most often lose money.

Why you can't just send USDT from TRC20 to an ERC20 address
USDT on TRON and USDT on Ethereum are issued by the same company and are worth the same, but they live on different blockchains. Each has its own smart contract, its own addresses and its own transaction history. The TRON blockchain knows nothing about Ethereum and cannot deliver coins to an address that starts with 0x. That is why your wallet has no "send to another network" button: TRC20 tokens go only to a TRON address, and ERC20 tokens only to an Ethereum address.
To get your USDT onto another network, someone has to take your coins on TRON and pay out the same amount on Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain. That is the job of swap services, exchanges and bridges. How the networks differ in fees and convenience is covered in detail in our guide on which USDT network to choose for transfers. This article is about something else: how to move the USDT you already hold without losing it along the way.
How to convert USDT TRC20 to ERC20: three ways
There are basically three ways, and they differ in who holds your money during the transfer and what you have to provide.
No-registration swap service
You pick a pair, enter a receiving address on the network you need, send USDT on TRON to the address you are given, and receive USDT on Ethereum in your own wallet. This is how a no-registration crypto exchange works: no account, no balance stored on the site, and your coins pass through the service during the transfer and go straight back to you. The same way you can move USDT from TRON to BNB Smart Chain if you want a cheaper network.
The upside is speed and no paperwork. The only downside: you enter the address and network yourself, and nobody will catch a mistake for you.
Centralized exchange
On a centralized exchange your USDT sits in a shared balance, and you choose the network twice: when you deposit and when you withdraw. You deposit on TRC20 and withdraw on ERC20 or BEP20, and the exchange sends coins from its own reserves on the other network.
You need an account for this, and major exchanges require identity verification (KYC) before they allow withdrawals. Each exchange sets its own withdrawal fee for every network, and it is often higher than the network fee itself. If you already have a verified exchange account, this route is convenient; opening one just for a single transfer takes a while.
Bridge
A cross-chain bridge is a smart contract that accepts a token on one network and issues it on another. It works without an intermediary but takes some skill: you connect a web wallet, sign a spending approval and keep coins for fees on both networks. Sometimes what arrives is a wrapped version of the token instead of native USDT, and not every platform accepts it.
The main risk with bridges is hacks. According to Chainalysis, about $2 billion was stolen from bridges in 2022, nearly 70% of all crypto stolen that year; a single attack on the Ronin bridge cost $624 million. For a transfer between TRON and Ethereum, a beginner is better off skipping bridges.
USDT networks: addresses, fees and speed
The figures below are as of October 4, 2026. We calculated the fees from live USDT transfers on each network and the prices of their native coins on the same day; they depend on network load and exchange rates, so treat them as a rough guide.
| Network | Address | Fee paid in | USDT transfer cost | Block time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TRON (TRC20) | starts with T, 34 characters | TRX or energy | about 6.8 TRX (≈ $2.3) to an address that holds USDT, about 13.4 TRX (≈ $4.5) to an empty one | 3 seconds |
| Ethereum (ERC20) | 0x plus 40 characters | ETH | from a cent to 20-30 cents | 12 seconds |
| BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) | 0x plus 40 characters, same as Ethereum | BNB | a fraction of a cent | under a second |
| Solana (SPL) | 32-44 characters, no 0x | SOL | a fraction of a cent, plus about $0.25 to create a USDT account for a new recipient | under a second |
| TON | usually starts with UQ or EQ | GRAM (formerly Toncoin) | cents | seconds |
Where the TRON numbers come from: a regular USDT transfer uses 64,285 energy units, and a transfer to an address that has never held USDT uses 130,285. If you have no energy, the network burns TRX at 100 sun per unit; validators voted to cut it by more than half from 210 sun in late August 2025. Add about 0.35 TRX for bandwidth if the free daily allowance of 600 units is already used up. Your own or rented energy makes a transfer several times cheaper.
On Ethereum, gas stayed around 0.1-0.2 gwei that day according to Etherscan, which brought ERC20 transfers down to cents. During activity spikes it gets dozens of times more expensive, and then the gap with BEP20 becomes noticeable again.
How to swap USDT TRC20 to ERC20 or BEP20 without registration
On VertEXchange, moving USDT between networks is a regular swap: no account, email or phone number, and the USDT arrives straight at your address on the new network.
- Pick the pair. "You send" is USDT TRC20, "you get" is USDT ERC20 or USDT BEP20. For example, you can exchange USDT TRC20 to ERC20 without registration right from the pair page.
- Enter the amount and check what you will receive. The form shows the amount you get before you send anything. It will be slightly less than what you send: the service fee and the cost of sending on the new network are already included.
- Choose a rate type. A floating rate follows the market; a fixed rate guarantees the exact amount if you send your coins within the time window, and it is not available for every pair. For USDT to USDT the difference is small; for details, see our breakdown of which rate to pick when you swap crypto.
- Paste the recipient address. For ERC20 and BEP20 this is a 0x address. Make sure the recipient's wallet or exchange accepts USDT on exactly the network you selected in the form.
- Send USDT on TRON to the address you are given. Send exactly the amount and network shown in the order. The sending wallet needs TRX or energy to cover the fee.
- Track the status. The swap page shows each stage: coins received, swap, payout. Once the USDT is on its way to you, a transaction hash appears, and you can look the transfer up in the Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain explorer.
If something goes wrong, support only needs your swap ID. A transfer never requires your keys or seed phrase, and the service will never ask for them.
Do you need TRX to send USDT on TRON?
Yes. TRX is the native coin of the TRON blockchain, and the fee for a USDT transfer is charged in TRX, not in USDT itself. You have two options:
- Keep some TRX. The network burns the required amount when you send. At the rates of October 4, 2026, a reserve of 15 TRX covers even a transfer to a new address.
- Use energy. You get it by staking TRX, or you can rent it from third-party services. For frequent transfers this works out noticeably cheaper.
Some wallets can charge the fee directly in USDT, but you still pay it; the wallet simply buys the resources for you. If the wallet holds no TRX at all, the transfer will not go through, no matter how much USDT is in it.
You also need the native coin on the receiving side. To send USDT from Ethereum later you will need ETH, and from BNB Smart Chain, BNB. Think about this before the swap, or the coins will arrive with nothing to move them.
Which network to choose: ERC20, BEP20 or TRC20
- ERC20 if you need USDT for DeFi on Ethereum, on exchanges that accept stablecoins only on this network, or in the wallet where the rest of your portfolio sits. A transfer costs cents right now, but at peak hours it can be the most expensive of all.
- BEP20 is the cheapest of the three in fees as of October 4, 2026. It suits exchanges and wallets that work with BNB Smart Chain, and small, frequent transfers.
- TRC20 is the payments network. Almost every swap service, P2P platform and merchant accepts USDT on TRON, but each transfer without energy costs a couple of dollars.
If you need to pay in Telegram, it is easier to hold USDT on TON: you can send USDT from TRON to the TON network with the same kind of swap. Keep in mind that some exchanges ask for a comment (memo) on TON deposits.
Mistakes that make USDT disappear in transit
- Mixing up EVM networks. A 0x address is the same on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Arbitrum, Base and Polygon. Your wallet will not warn you that you picked the wrong network: the address accepts transfers on any of them. Check the network in the form against the one the recipient specified.
- A contract address instead of a wallet address. The USDT token address copied from a block explorer looks like a regular one, but coins sent to it are almost certainly gone.
- Skipping a test transfer. Before a large transfer, send a small amount and wait until it arrives. The fee for a test is cheaper than a mistake.
- The wrong amount on a fixed-rate order. Send exactly the amount shown and do not wait too long: if you send a different amount or miss the window, the swap will no longer go through on the terms you were shown.
If a transfer has already gone to the wrong place, see the step-by-step guide sent USDT to the wrong network. And if your USDT ended up on BNB Smart Chain when you needed it on TRON, you can swap it back from BEP20 to TRC20.
FAQ
Can I send USDT TRC20 to an ERC20 address?
No. A TRON wallet will not send coins to a 0x address, and if you make a mistake when withdrawing from an exchange, the transfer either fails or goes out on the wrong network. USDT is moved between networks with a swap service, an exchange or a bridge.
How much does it cost to convert USDT from TRC20 to ERC20?
It is the TRON network fee for sending (about 6.8-13.4 TRX without energy as of October 4, 2026) plus the cost of the swap. The swap form shows the final amount you will receive before you send your coins.
How long does a TRC20 to ERC20 transfer take?
TRON produces a block every 3 seconds, Ethereum every 12 seconds, and BNB Smart Chain in under a second. The swap starts once the service sees your transfer on the network, so the total time depends on confirmations on both networks.
Do I need TRX to send USDT TRC20?
Yes, TRON fees are paid in TRX or with energy. Without them a USDT transfer will not go through, even if the wallet holds stablecoins.
What should I do if I sent USDT to the wrong network?
First, find the transaction by its hash and see where the money went. If the address is yours, the coins are usually sitting at it on the neighboring network; if it is an exchange address, contact that exchange's support.
Is USDT worth the same on every network?
Yes, Tether issues USDT on all networks at one to one with the US dollar. The only differences are transfer fees and where each network is accepted.
Can I move USDT between networks without an exchange?
Yes: through a no-registration swap service or a bridge. A swap service is simpler: no account and no connecting your wallet to a smart contract, just a receiving address.
Send USDT on TRON and get USDT ERC20 straight to your 0x address. No registration, email or phone number.
